Farm Fields Platted Into a 1960s Subdivision
Modern Bolingbrook began in the early 1960s, when a builder platted farm fields north of old U.S. 66 beside Illinois Route 53 into three subdivisions -- Westbury, Colonial Village, and King's Park -- sold from 1961 to 1965 as the 'Bolingbrook Subdivision.' The village incorporated on October 6, 1965, then grew from about 7,000 residents in 1970 to more than 37,000 by 1980, one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the Chicago area that decade.
