From Stacy's Corners to a Railroad Suburb
Glen Ellyn's first settlers arrived around 1834 at what was then called Stacy's Corners, but the town's shape today owes more to 1849, when Dr. Lewey Q. Newton sold a railroad right-of-way through his land and built a station at his own expense to guarantee a stop -- shifting the town center to Main Street and Crescent Boulevard, still the site of today's train station. The village incorporated in 1892, a few years after the artificial Lake Ellyn was created in 1889.
